At SOLVE Nepal, we focus on centering the voices and experiences of those most impacted by the climate crisis, amplifying their demands for a resilient and safe world. Climate change exacerbates existing inequalities, with devastating effects on lives, livelihoods, and cultural connections to the natural world. In Nepal, the impacts are particularly severe, with communities facing increased floods, landslides, melting glaciers, and changing weather patterns that threaten agriculture and food security. Rapid glacier melting, in particular, poses significant risks to downstream communities, leading to glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) and disrupting water supplies for millions of people who depend on these glaciers for their water resources.

Through our advocacy efforts, we push for financial solutions to Loss & Damage, demand debt cancellation for the poorest nations, and hold rich countries accountable to their obligations under the Paris Agreement, particularly in providing support for adaptation and mitigation.

Our work in Nepal focuses on building community resilience by promoting sustainable agricultural practices, climate-adaptive infrastructure, and reforestation initiatives that mitigate the effects of climate change. We collaborate with local communities to implement innovative adaptation strategies, such as water conservation techniques, climate-resilient crop varieties, and measures to address the threats posed by glacier melt, which help them withstand environmental challenges. SOLVE Nepal advocates for transformative, inclusive, and people-centered national climate action plans, emphasizing the need for a just transition across all sectors. We ensure that governments deliver ambitious climate targets that address both short-term and long-term vulnerabilities, keeping global warming below 1.5ºC.

Health and Education

At Solve Nepal, we think that the basis of long-term development are educated children and healthy families. Our programs are centered on enhancing access to necessary treatments, encouraging preventive care, and fortifying community health services. Additionally, in order to close gaps in marginalized communities and guarantee that no one is left behind, we support inclusive education that reaches children from tribal and marginalized groups. Through skill-based learning opportunities and awareness campaigns, we are transforming communities throughout Nepal into ones that are smarter, healthier, and more resilient.

Bioinputs

Through family farming, climate-smart agriculture, and bioinputs, Solve Nepal has been empowering Chepang families in Rapti Municipality for the last two years. Our work focuses on inclusivity, helping smallholder farmers, tribal communities, and marginalized groups to boost productivity while preserving the environment. We expand this mission to include the Madheshi community in Gaur Municipality, Rautahat, and the Tamang communities in Mandandeupur Municipality. In addition to increasing food security, we are establishing sustainable livelihoods for some of Nepal's most vulnerable communities by strengthening local farming methods and encouraging organic bioinputs.

ICT Promotion

Solve Nepal actively promotes Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to bridge the digital divide in Nepal. Our work focuses on enhancing digital literacy and ensuring that communities have access to modern communication tools, especially in rural and marginalized areas. We collaborate with educational institutions, government agencies, and local communities to foster the use of ICT in education, governance, agriculture, and economic development. Some of our major projects include the development of the 'Nepali Krishi' mobile app, designed specifically for the peasants of Nepal. This app empowers peasants by providing vital information on modern farming techniques, weather forecasts, crop pricing, and access to agricultural resources. We have also conducted numerous educational training programs in rural schools, helping students and teachers integrate digital tools into their curriculum. Additionally, our digital literacy programs have focused on women, marginalized groups, and peasants, equipping them with the skills to use mobile devices and the internet for personal and economic development. Moreover, Solve Nepal has implemented ICT in Agriculture programs that train peasants to use digital tools to improve their farming practices. Through these programs, peasants are taught how to use the internet to search for information on agriculture, connect with markets, and access vital resources. We have helped numerous peasants learn how mobile technology can improve their productivity, connect them to broader networks, and increase their access to valuable information.

Agroecology

Solve Nepal promotes sustainable agricultural practices through agroecology, focusing on eco-friendly farming that respects nature. We have implemented numerous projects encouraging farmers to adopt biodiversity-enhancing practices, such as organic farming and natural pest control. These projects not only improve farm productivity but also ensure the long-term health of the environment. Our work in agroecology has helped communities become more resilient to climate change while promoting food security.

Agrotourism

Through agrotourism, Solve Nepal supports rural communities by promoting farm-based tourism experiences. Visitors can experience the beauty of Nepal’s agricultural landscapes while learning about sustainable farming practices. We have worked with several local peasants to help them turn their farms into tourist destinations, generating additional income streams. These initiatives foster a deeper connection between rural communities and visitors, creating awareness about the importance of sustainable agriculture.

Agroforestry

Solve Nepal actively promotes the practice of agroforestry, a sustainable approach to land use that integrates trees, crops, and livestock in a symbiotic relationship. By encouraging peasants to plant trees alongside their crops, we aim to enhance agricultural productivity while preserving the environment. Our agroforestry initiatives are designed to improve soil health, conserve biodiversity, and contribute to sustainable farming practices, ensuring that agricultural systems remain productive and resilient over time. Through various projects, Solve Nepal has supported peasants in adopting agroforestry techniques that not only improve the quality of their land but also open up new income-generating opportunities. The integration of trees into agricultural landscapes provides benefits such as timber, fruits, fuelwood, and other forest products, diversifying income sources for rural communities. This diversification helps to mitigate the risks associated with conventional farming methods, making peasant livelihoods more secure and resilient to environmental changes. Agroforestry also plays a significant role in combating climate change. By promoting carbon sequestration through tree planting and sustainable land use practices, these projects help build climate resilience among rural communities. Solve Nepal’s work in agroforestry has been recognized for its positive impact on both the environment and local economies, as it fosters sustainable livelihoods, enhances food security, and contributes to the overall well-being of peasant communities. Our initiatives are not only designed to benefit the current generation of peasants but are also focused on long-term environmental sustainability. Good Governance

Promoting good governance is a key pillar of Solve Nepal’s work. We help local governments and civil society organizations build transparent, accountable, and inclusive governance structures. Our projects focus on enhancing citizen participation in decision-making processes, improving service delivery, and strengthening democratic institutions. Over the years, we have worked closely with local government bodies, political groups, and social activists to advocate for better governance practices across Nepal. Some of our major projects include local government capacity-building programs and citizen engagement forums.

Awareness/Advocacy/Financial Literacy

Solve Nepal actively raises awareness and advocates for key social, environmental, and technological issues, with a strong emphasis on financial literacy. We work closely with local communities, government bodies, and social activists to promote ICT adoption, sustainable farming, good governance practices, and financial empowerment. Our advocacy efforts include campaigns on environmental conservation, gender equality, responsible governance, and financial education to foster economic independence. Through workshops, training programs, and community outreach, we equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to manage personal finances, understand budgeting, savings, and investment options, and navigate financial systems effectively. We have a track record of collaborating with diverse groups, including local government bodies and political organizations, to ensure that our advocacy efforts translate into tangible actions and policy changes that promote sustainable development and financial inclusion.

Technology Transfer

Technology transfer is a critical part of our mission at Solve Nepal. We identify, adapt, and implement technologies suited to local conditions, especially in agriculture and education. For example, we have successfully introduced water-saving irrigation technologies and renewable energy solutions to rural farming communities. Our role is to bridge the gap between innovation and real-world application, ensuring that communities benefit from appropriate and sustainable technologies.

Training

Training and capacity building are at the core of Solve Nepal's initiatives. We offer specialized training programs in ICT, sustainable agriculture, leadership, and governance, helping individuals and organizations acquire essential skills. Our training programs are customized to meet the needs of different groups, including youths, peasants, and local government officials. For instance, we have successfully delivered vocational training in technology for unemployed youths and organized workshops on sustainable farming practices in rural areas. We believe in the power of education and practical skills to drive lasting change.
